Via the Complete Running Network : I love seeing stories like this. Half a Soulja is a documentary about Bryan Breeze (aka 'Soulja'), who just completed the New York City Triathlon. Quite a challenge for anyone; for Bryan - who has no legs and only partly-formed arms - this is truly incredible.
Charles Staley questions the value of Undulating Periodization. I have to admit, he raises some good points.
A little rope work at the Royal New Zealand Show.
Cynthia Morrison (aka 'Cyndini') is an escapologist, Strongwoman and all-around strength athlete. Her site gives you an idea of her interest in all things heavy - including the infamous Basque cylinder (pictured).
The Ice Chamber looks like a great place to work out; especially with exercises such as these. Definitely time to get some chains.
Not to mention a decent length of rope for the "Charles Bronson in The Great Escape" thing. Upside down, of course.
Eric Cressey introduces a new (to me, at least) concept, explored in detail in the Thomas Myers book Anatomy Trains. This explores the idea of the spiral line, a link between one side of the shoulder girdle and the opposite leg. Fascinating stuff.
Via Get Outdoors : Lately I've been considering various ways to squeeze a little more into the home gym; which isn't exactly cavernous. This is definitely on the cards - the Treadwall (a dynamic climbing wall). A beautiful thing.
A hectic week here on Straight to the Bar, with the following appearing amidst the home renovation work :
- Articles : The Science of Sport took a prescient look at heart attacks in athletes, Mich took us back to her favourite gym and Tony Gentilcore discussed the basics of nutrition. A good read.
- Videos : Wilfried Dietrich throws 412lb Chris Taylor at the 1972 Munich Olympics, Rob Orlando demonstrates the Axle Press and Kaz does it again (this contains the infamous 'keg throwing' piece).
- Grip : Scott Styles enjoys some Braced Bending, Jedd notes some cool-sounding bending wraps (easily better than my current setup) and the new GripGirl DVD is out.
- Ideas : Slackline flipping, Dragon Flags and several great varieties of jumps.
- Bonus : A few random Jesse Marunde clips. He'll certainly be missed.
Jesse Marunde (1979 - 2007). Terrible news.
