Jumping with Kettlebells. The ancient Greeks would've been proud.

Via MarkFu : kettlebell painting is fun, no matter what colour scheme you choose. To get one done, either ask someone like Val to do the heavy lifting; or have a go at it yourself. It really isn't that hard.

Nick points to a great piece on none other than IronMind's Randall J. Strossen. An amazing man.

Another great demonstration by Adam. Apart from making this feat look almost ridiculously easy, the entire process is clearly explained. Superb.

A comment yesterday from kettlebell and CrossFit coach Leon (pictured on the right, here) drew me to the excellent blog of the guys at CrossFit NorthEastEngland. To get a feeling for the workouts themselves, just check out some of the team's videos. Good stuff.

Several updates to the site have been made over the past few days, with a number of others in progress. So far, a few bios have been reworked; including :

After testing out several pieces of genealogy software over the past few months, I’ve settled on a combination of Reunion (for local data) and The Next Generation (for the online version). Both are superb, and very highly recommended. You’ll find an updated tree here.

Finally, a number of old photographs and certificates are being scanned; and put online (as appropriate) for general use in your research. These are in the Family Tree gallery on my SmugMug site; and yes, there are many, many more. If you’re after a particular photo of a Bird family member, just ask.

Fight Geek mentioned yesterday how much he's enjoying the Parkour Tutorial videos (same here, incidentally). Here are a few of my own favourites - 10, to be exact.

  1. Rolling (by Team Ukemi)

  2. Landing (by pkTO)

  3. Vault (by Urban Freeflow)

  4. Climbing (by Guillaume Delvigne)

  5. Palm Spin (by Hawaii Parkour)

Via A Philosophy of Strength : Weekend America takes a look at an oft-forgotten aspect of Olympic boycotts, the athletes. Desiree Cooper chats with hurdler Renaldo Nehemiah, who was at the top of his game in 1980.

Via Conditioning Research : EurekAlert notes another very interesting snippet from the current research on fats : the number of fat cells in a person's body is established during teen years; remaining constant thereafter. Changes in fat mass are due to changes in fat cell volume, rather than a growth/decline in the number of cells. Definitely something to think about.
