Leaving on a Jet Plane - SttB Articles

Tomorrow I'll be departing Edinburgh for a month of sun-soaking (hopefully) in Australia, specifically Brisbane, where my brother is to be married in a little over a week's time.

No doubt there'll be an opportunity or two to throw a bit of iron around (I've no intention of going for a month without hearing the familiar 'clank' of plates coupled with the equally melodious sounds of an electric guitar), but updates will probably be sporadic for a while.

Cutting Through It - SttB Articles

Bradford PressThe Edinburgh Fringe Festival kicked off today, and amid the street performers peppering the Royal Mile I saw a bit of chainsaw juggling. Quite impressive.

Suitably revved up (yes, I know) I hit the iron on another warm day here (the relative heat usually lasts for around two weeks per year) and followed pretty much the same routine as last week. The only new entrant this time was the Bradford press, which teamed up with the Neider press for a quick shoulder-killing session.

Musical inspiration this time came from Matt, who suggested a new album to add to the ever-expanding workout collection - 'Get Born' by Australian band Jet. Good, simple rock.

DE BENCH
Bench press (explosive) 3x3@45kg, 6x3@47.5kg
Bench press (close grip) 4x6@47.5kg
Dip 4x10@bw
Pull-up (wide grip) / pull-up (medium grip) - supersetted 10,7,5,5
Neider press / Bradford press - supersetted 2x6@20kg

Total time : 31 mins

Tough Up North - SttB Articles

A new Australian record for the bench press has been set by Damien Williams, a lifter from Katherine (Northern Territory), in the National Championships at Newcastle. Aged 34, and at a bodyweight of 75kg, Williams pressed 170kg.

Looks like I have a bit of catching up to do.

Byrds in Australia - History

Most of my research to date regarding the Bird families in Australia is based around that spelling, BIRD, however recently I have bumped into a couple of other researchers tracing Australian BYRD ancestors.

If you're one of the few people tracing BYRD families in Australia please let me know, and I'll put you in touch with the others.
